Job Title: Luminary Indigenous Eco-System Planning Assistant (Working remotely)

Job Description: 

Indigenous Works has launched a new initiative called Luminary: Advancing Indigenous Innovation for Economic Transformation, Employment and Well-Being.  With over 140 Luminary Charter partners from the academic, Indigenous business and NGO communities, we are undertaking an intensive planning process from mid April to December 2021 to co-create a strategy and plan.  The student will support the planning process and its partners, organize input, synthesize feedback and write reports from the various strategy sessions that will be held. 

  • Participate and observe 8-12 strategy sessions held in April, May and June;
  • Synthesize the input and produce reports from each session;
  • Attend two national Luminary Partner forums in late June and September;
  • Conduct followup telephone interviews
  • Map various Indigenous research programs and initiatives and organize into a  database of Indigenous Research and Innovation Initiatives.
Eligibility requirements for the position

Students must be:

  1. Registered in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution (part-time or full-time enrollment in college, bachelor’s, master’s or PhD programs).
     
  2. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. International students are not eligible.
     
  3. Undertaking a placement that is recognized as a Work-Integrated Learning component by the student’s institution in connection with a course, degree, certificate, diploma, or other recognized program offered by the institution. The placement can be required or optional, for credit or not for credit.

Job Title: Luminary Agrifoods Research Coordinators (working remotely)

Job Description: 

Indigenous Works is looking for students to conduct research and other duties over a four to eight month period in the Indigenous Agriculture/Agrifoods Sector. Little is know about the Indigenous Agri-business sector and the current level of activity by Indigenous businesses and communities.  Student researchers will undertake an extensive mapping exercise to document the Indigenous Agri-business sector in Canada.

  • Conduct telephone and internet research to identify Indigenous businesses and organizations engaged in the Agriculture/Agrifoods Sector
  • Develop a database of Indigenous Agriculture/Agrifoods contacts and their coordinates;
  • Field questions from Indigenous companies and organizations engaged in this sector about our organization's Agriculture/Agrifoods Innovation Project
  • Skills required - Methodical research skills, Accurate documentation, Effective communicator. Knowledge of the Agriculture/Agrifoods Sector is preferred but not essential
  • This position can be a combination of part-time and full-time work over an 7-8 month period.

Job Title: Indigenous Business & Economic Development Innovation Research  (working remotely)

Job Description: 

Indigenous Works is looking for a student to conduct research and other duties for four to eight months in the area of Indigenous business development and human resources. There is a lack of information on community owned Indigenous economic development corporations (IEDC’s)  in regards to their economic and labour market profiles and their research needs. This project will aim to generate a cross section of data from the estimated 500 IEDC’s that exist in Canada.

  • Conduct telephone and internet research to identify Indigenous economic development corporations in Canada
  • Develop a database of Indigenous Economic Development Corporations' contacts and their coordinates;
  • Field questions from these corporations and provide responses to queries about research, innovation, labour market and interest level in wage subsidy programs.
  • Skills required - Methodical research skills, Accurate documentation, Effective communicator.
  • This position can be a combination of part-time and full-time work over an 7-8 month period.
