June 5, 2018
Indigenous Works' Linkages Project hosted a Workforce Connex event at the NorQuest College in Edmonton, Alberta on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The focus of this event was the Food, Beverage and Hospitality sectors. This event brought representatives together from Indigenous, business, education and other areas in facilitated strategic discussions to learn more about the opportunities for Indigenous people to work in the sector, and developed actionable plans which offer employment and new sources of talent for these growing sectors.
Using a panel presentation, the attendees addressed the following questions:
What are the opportunities for Indigenous employment in the fast-growing Food, Beverage and Hospitality sectors in Alberta and Canada?
What are the challenges preventing Indigenous people from accessing these opportunities?
What are the solutions to overcoming these challenges?
Employers in the Food, Beverage and Hospitality sector, and those involved with providing Indigenous labour market services, Indigenous Works Linkages Project needs to hear from you! This event, though focused on these sectors, was of interest to participants involved in Indigenous labour markets learning how to improve their coordination and collaboration for better outcomes. The networking during the event was invaluable to future partnerships in employment for Indigenous people.
The Linkages Project is a four-province initiative funded by Employment and Social Development Canada, designed to bring leaders together to improve Indigenous labour market collaboration and employment outcomes in target sectors of the economy.
There was no cost to attend this Workforce Connex event, which was informative, fast-paced and productive.
